Liverpool Symphony of Steam, Sparks and Space

Saturday May 7th at 3pm in Liverpool's Albert Dock

Composed by Ansuman Biswas

(Part of the Eye Music Trust Strategic Tour)

Specially composed for the Albert Dock Festival of Steam, Eye Music Trust have commissioned composer Ansuman Biswas to create a spectacular event in the Salthouse Docks.

A serene ballet for steam boats leads to pounding drums of Katumba, flaming oil drums, clanging metal instruments and acoustic pyrotechnics! The Symphony builds to a thunderous climax with the whistles, hooters and steam of the assembled traction engines, steam boats and trains.

An extra feature of the symphony is the building of (what we believe is) the world's largest set of Tubular Bells. Created with scaffolding supplied by George Roberts Scaffolding, Liverpool 120 individually tuned tubes are hung from the roof of the Floating Stage in Salthouse Dock and played by five percussionists.

The Symphony has been composed to celebrate the relaunch of the Daniel Adamson and is being commissioned by Eye Music Trust with funding provided by Arts Council Strategic Touring.

TIMES: 3pm to 3.40pm.

LOCATION: Salthouse Dock, Strand Street, Liverpool
